Principal's Message 2016-2017
Dear Edison families,
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! When I reflect on my experience as an elementary school student, I remember many things: Reading my favorite books (Danny and the Dinosaur and Sammy the Seal) over and over again and getting hooked on Nancy Drew . I learned to write reports. My favorite by far was about tarantulas. To this day, I think spiders are fascinating! I remembering mastering the times table and writing story problems with my team (If you have three pizzas with 8 slices in each pizza, about how many people can you serve if everyone eats two slices?). And, of course, I couldn’t wait to get outside and play kickball at recess with my friends.
I hope that your children make many wonderful learning memories this year at Edison Elementary. I hope they experience learning as exciting, challenging, satisfying, and fun. We are fortunate to have an incredibly caring, dedicated, and skilled staff here at Edison. I know that we will work hard to help your children continue learning and growing as curious, creative, and complex thinkers. As Edison’s principal, my primary objective is to support teachers
and staff to fulfill Edison's mission, which is to ensure a learning environment that provides academic success and positive selfworth for all students.
We are thankful for the contributions that you make as we strive to fulfill our mission. The greatest success is found when we work together to meet the needs of your children. One of the best things you can do is to ask your child, “What did you do at school today? What did you learn?” Please don’t accept “nothing” as an answer! Ask your children questions, listen to their ideas, and help them dig deeper into learning. Another wonderful way to work together on behalf of Edison’s children is through our Parent-Teacher Association. We have reinstated our PTA and have a amazing PTA leadership board. Please join me in welcoming Ryan Calhoon (president), Jennifer Lewis (vicepresident), Jennifer Warner and Carrie LaRoy (cosecretaries), and Jennifer Lewis (treasurer). I hope you will join the PTA and volunteer at a level that best fits your schedule this year.
Once again, welcome to the new school year! We are excited to embark on another year of learning and growth with your children. They are precious to you and they are precious to us as well. We will do our very best to teach them and support them in their journey as lifelong learners.
