Principal's Message - Aug 2015
Dear Edison students and families,
Summer is quickly drawing to a close and the first day of school is right around the corner! I hope that summer vacation has been exactly what you hoped for. Perhaps it was restful and refreshing or maybe you enjoyed a grand adventure with family and friends. I read some great books and enjoyed Walla Walla’s lovely summer weather. Most of all, I hope that you are as excited as we are to start the new school year on Wednesday, August 26th.
One of the best things about Edison is our talented, caring, and dedicated staff. This year, we are excited to welcome several new members to our team. We welcome two new teachers, Cesar Hernandez (first grade) and Tracy Gerbino (fifth grade). A few teachers will be taking on new roles. Toni Lynn Palmer will teach third grade, Joshua Reed will teach second grade, and Martin Telstad will teach fourth grade in our Dual Language Program. Melanie Richardson joins us as our Speech and Language teacher. We are lucky to have para-educators Pat Harris, Rosalinda Avalos, and Yvonne Vinyard at Edison this year as well. We extend a big welcome to our new custodian, Alex Anaya. These amazing staff members are already hard at work, preparing for the new school year. Finally, a hearty thank you to Pete Hernandez and Karen Bannerman for their hard work this summer - thanks to this custodial team, our building is ready to go both inside and out.
Parents, I hope that you will consider joining our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) this year. If you are interested in PTO leadership and/or membership , please visit us at the PTO table during our Curriculum Night. PTO ideas are already percolating, but we need your help to ensure that the PTO gets off to a successful start. I appreciate the past efforts of so many parents and really look forward to getting to know more of you this year.
We are excited to host Edison’s Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 10th, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Teachers will share major learning goals as well as ideas about how you can best support your child’s learning at home. Please drop by your child’s classroom and then join us outside for cool popsicles and warm conversation.
Enjoy the last days of summer and see you soon!
